As Art Director of ASA Football and creator of Storm Uniforms, I was involved in the design and production of thousands of custom sublimated jersey designs for youth football leagues and teams nationwide. The design process would begin with an artwork request from the client. They would provide their team colors, any existing artwork to be used, and ideas. Provided artwork often had to be recreated in vector form using Adobe Illustrator for color placement and scalability. Once the client approved the artwork and jersey mockup, the preproduction phase began. This included saving each graphic to scale (per size), prepping for digitization, separating artwork depending on the application, and creating the manufacturing instructions. We used several factories mostly located in Pakistan. Given the language barrier, all instructions had to be very visual including design diagrams, separate textures, logo separations, team name artwork, player numbers, and player names. Together, the factory foremen and I worked closely to develop systems and methods for ensuring streamlined production to meet the promised lead times.
Here are a few of my favorite designs!
